I’ve tested briefly Gemini CLI in the free version – I asked it to copy and generate a dashboard from a link, I followed some questions from it, and also gave some suggestions. A few things it cannot add, because in the beginning I asked to use pure HTML and CSS (there was an exception for HiCharts). I had a few rateLimitExceeded errors, but it’s tolerable as it’s a free version. My quota after that simple generation in maybe 5-6 requests was still 98%. I guess a better test can be done if I get features documentation from Perplexity, and throw it directly to Gemini. Anyway, it’s a strong competitor to Claude Code.
